The Benefits of Membership

Memberships are such an important part of the support we receive from the community.  The annual fees help us bring educational programs to the community as well as cover operating costs.  The fees are $10 for a student membership, $25 for a standard membership, and $75 for a premium membership with DAWC commemorative print.

The benefits of becoming a member of the DeKalb Area Women's Center are varied.  They begin with the sense of belonging- that feeling of being a part of something for the greater good, of helping make the world a better place- and they don't end there.  All members receive the bi-monthly newsletter mailed to their address.  This newsletter is filled with news about the Center, recaps of past events and previews of upcoming ones, columns, and other articles and information.  Members are also invited to contribute to the newsletter in the column "What Women Need to Know".

Members are also welcome to give presentations on Friday evenings showcasing their interests, vocations  and avocations.  They are part-owners of the permanent art collection and the 1917 historic site and have a voice in the organization.

Members also receive a discount on room and building use fees.  Contact us for the community space fee structure and hold your next meeting or event in a unique vintage setting!

Premium members receive an additional benefit: an exclusive, limited-edition art print.  This broadside is a triple wood cut print designed, carved, and inked by former director of the NIU School of Art Adrian Tio.  It features a poem composed by Charter Board Member Becky Parfitt and would make a lovely addition to your home or business.

In addition to paid memberships, there is a work-exchange membership program.  After the completion of eight hours of work for the DAWC, the volunteer becomes a standard member.  This is a great way to get involved and get to know your community resource!

Contributions to the DeKalb Area Women's Center

The DeKalb Area Women's Center is an all-volunteer organization that is completely dependent on your donations.  There are various ways that you can contribute to the DAWC.

The basic method of supporting the DAWC is to purchase an annual membership.  The rates begin at $10 per year for students, $25 per year for a standard membership, and $75 for a premium membership, which includes a DAWC commemorative print.  If you prefer to donate time, there is also an eight hour work exchange program, please contact us for further details.

Pledges are also a great way to help us with our costs.  You can specify any dollar amount and mail it to the DAWC on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual basis- it's up to you!  Again, please contact us for details.

Endowments help us immensely and can be given to either the DAWC Endowment, which is used to fund all activities, or the Coveny & Whalen Family Endowment, which is used for supporting the Art Gallery program.  These gifts can be sent in check form to DeKalb County Community Foundation at 475 DeKalb Avenue in Sycamore, Illinois, 60178.  Please specify which endowment fund you would like the contribution to go toward.

Memorials are a lovely way to remember a special person.  You can make a contribution in their name for a specific purpose such as the perennial garden or the window fund.  Please contact us so we can help you find the prefect way commemorate your loved one.

In-kind contributions are always helpful!  You can donate new and used goods of all sorts or volunteer your time and expertise.  Help keep the DAWC going strong!  Contact us or drop by the Center during operating hours.

If you place an advertisement in our print newsletter you can help us defray the printing costs while reaching a new audience.  Members pay $15 an issue or $60 a year.  Non-member fees are $20 an issue or $100 a year.  You can email a .jpg of your ad and send the payment through the mail to DAWC at 1021 State Street in DeKalb, IL, 60115-3540.  The newsletter is published six times a year.

There are several area businesses that can help you support us.  DIMCO Recycling at 9th and Oak Street in DeKalb offers an easy way for you to contribute to the DeKalb Area Women's Center.  When you bring your aluminum cans for recycling, simply tell them you would like to credit the DAWC account.  Pick up a Schnuck's eScrip Card from the DAWC to donate a portion of your purchase.  If you mention DAWC at the C.A.R. Hospital in DeKalb, they will make a donation from your repair bill.  Membership in the DAWC entitles you to a discount on your purchase at Splash of Color.

Our historical space is available for use by community members.  For a donation you can hold your next event in our vintage Finnish hall!

Attending our events is another great way to support the DAWC.  We have many events throughout the year, so bring your friends!  We have a dedicated parking lot just a half a block south of the Center on 11th Street.
